Why join the Death Committee

The Muslim Welfare Organisation (MWO) provides a community-based Death Committee to help cover funeral costs for Muslim residents of the UK. Membership provides practical financial assistance, clear procedures and trustee oversight. Our scheme is run in accordance with UK law and with full respect for Islamic funeral rites.

How it works

1. Apply online and submit proof of ID.

2. Pay the one-off administrative donation and the annual donation by bank transfer.

3. We confirm your membership and add you to the register.

4. On death, next of kin submit the death certificate and we disburse up to £3,000 towards funeral costs where funds are available.

MWO offers three membership types, each designed to suit different household structures. All memberships require a one-off administrative donation and an annual donation paid in full at the start of the membership year.

Family Membership

• One-off administrative donation: £100

• Annual donation: £75 (covers up to two adults)

• Additional children under 18: £15 per annum, per child

• Children aged 18 or over living at home: £75 per annum, each

Single Membership (ages 18 to 55)

• One-off administrative donation: £100
• Annual donation: £75 per annum

Single / Couple Membership (ages 56 to 59)

• Single (age 56 to 59) one-off administrative donation: £725

• Couple (both aged 56 to 59) one-off administrative donation: £1,125

• Annual donation: £75 per annum

Who can join the Death Committee?

Membership is available only to Muslims permanently resident in the United Kingdom. Proof of identity and residency may be required. Applicants with pre-existing critical medical conditions are not eligible.

What does the Death Committee cover?

The committee contributes up to £3,000 towards a qualifying member’s funeral costs, subject to available funds and the committee’s rules. Items such as repatriation outside the UK, discretionary items and extra caskets are not covered.

How much does membership cost?

Costs vary by membership type. The one-off administrative donation is £100 for most applicants. The annual donation is usually £75 per year. Over 55s may have different one-off administrative donations. See the Membership page for full pricing.

How do I pay?

All donations must be paid by bank transfer to the MWO account. Include your surname and postcode as the payment reference and email proof of payment to [email protected].
