How it works

Let Us Lend a Helping Hand

The Death Committee is a mutual support scheme run by the Muslim Welfare Organisation for Muslims permanently resident in the United Kingdom. The committee is managed by trustees who oversee the fund, membership, and disbursement rules.

Step 1: Apply

Complete the online application form. You will need to provide:

Proof of identity (passport, driving licence or national ID).

Date of birth and contact details.

Confirmation that you do not have a pre-existing critical medical condition.

Applications may be accepted or declined at MWO’s discretion.

Step 2: Pay the donations

All payments must be made by bank transfer.
The application requires:

A one-off administrative donation (see the Membership page for amounts).

The annual donation for the membership year.

Payments should be made using your surname and postcode as the payment reference.

Step 3: Membership activation

Membership starts on the first day of the first month of the year in which your payment is received and continues to the end of December of that year.
For subsequent years, membership runs from 1 January to 31 December and must be renewed by paying the annual donation in full on or before 1 January.

Step 4: On the death of a member

Next of kin must contact MWO and supply a certified copy of the original death certificate.

MWO will verify the membership and the available funds.

Where funds are available, MWO will provide up to £3,000 towards the funeral costs. If costs exceed £3,000, the shortfall will be the responsibility of the next of kin or family.

Additional expenses such as caskets beyond the agreed arrangements, flowers and repatriation are not covered.
