Frequently Asked Questions

Who can join the Death Committee?

Membership is available only to Muslims permanently resident in the United Kingdom. Proof of identity and residency may be required. Applicants with pre-existing critical medical conditions are not eligible.

What does the Death Committee cover?

The committee contributes up to £3,000 towards a qualifying member’s funeral costs, subject to available funds and the committee’s rules. Items such as repatriation outside the UK, discretionary items and extra caskets are not covered.

How much does membership cost?
Costs vary by membership type. The one-off administrative donation is £100 for most applicants. The annual donation is usually £75 per year. Over 55s may have different one-off administrative donations. See the Membership page for full pricing.
How do I pay?

All donations must be paid by bank transfer to the MWO account. Include your surname and postcode as the payment reference and email proof of payment to [email protected].

When does membership start and end?

Membership for the initial year starts on the first day of the month in which your payment is received, and ends on 31 December of that year. Subsequent membership runs from 1 January to 31 December and must be renewed each year.

Are donations refundable?

The one-off administrative donation is non-refundable. If you cancel within 14 days of joining, 90% of the membership donation may be refunded. No refunds are given after 14 days.

How do my family make a claim?

Next of kin should contact MWO and provide a certified copy of the original death certificate and any other requested documents. Payments will be made once eligibility and funds are verified.

What happens if the fund is short of money?

If the Death Committee Fund does not contain sufficient funds, active members may be required to contribute equally to meet costs.

How do I complain if I am unhappy with the service?

Email [email protected] or write to MWO, 7 Upper High Street, Cradley Heath, West Midlands, B64 5HX. Complaints will be handled in accordance with MWO’s internal procedures.
